Seaweed Netherlands

The world's first commercial-scale seaweed farm is located between offshore wind turbines, situated 18 kilometers off the coast of Scheveningen in the Netherlands. It covers five hectares and aims to test and improve seaweed cultivation while pioneering scientific research into carbon sequestration. The farm uses nets anchored to the seabed, with seaweed growing between wind turbines. The harvested seaweed can be processed into a wide range of products, including textiles, foods, and wellness items, demonstrating the relevance of commercial seaweed production for European markets
